DOC — the AI

DOC is LODE’s assistant beta — one conversation, available two ways: the Ask DOC button floating on every page (⌘K) and the DOC tab for a full-page session. The same thread in both. DOC is a beta feature: it will change, and what it can do may change with it.

What you can ask

What you can ask

General mode answers questions about LODE itself, drawing standards and code, or anything across your projects — “Which projects are in CD?”, “Who’s the project architect on the library?” Project mode answers questions about the set — “What changed in the latest package?”, “Which sheets still need review?”, “Find conflicts between A and S sheets.”

DOC cites what it references — sheet citations are clickable cards that open the sheet — and searches the web when the answer needs it, labeled On the web. Attach up to four images to a question; save any answer as a note.

Ask about a region. The + in the composer arms a box-draw on the open sheet — “Draw a box on the sheet to ask DOC about that region” (Studio plans). The scope picker’s “Pick a package…” and “Selected sheets” rows are labeled Coming soon.

Unasked

Where DOC shows up without being asked

Issuance summaryAfter an accepted upload, a prose summary of what came in — always marked “for reference only — not part of the official project record.”
“What Changed”The summary strip in Compare, with key changes as chips — see Module 03.
DOC Review betaChecks a submitted document against the governing spec section — “a starting point for your review, not a review.” Findings stay DOC’s until a person adopts them into the internal thread; nothing ever flows from a finding to a return, a status, or an outcome.

Permissions

Your firm decides what DOC reads

Settings › DOC Access — independent switches, not a ladder:

General assistance
On by default. LODE help only — reads no project data.
Project info
Names, numbers, statuses, team.
Phase documents
On by default. Never contracts, lien releases, or certificates of insurance.
Drawing info
Sheet numbers and titles — not the drawings themselves.
Specifications
Spec sections, for spec-aware answers.
Full drawings
The deepest access — DOC reads sheet content.
All AI off
The master switch. There’s also a per-project “AI is off for this project” switch for clients who require no AI, and a per-upload “Run DOC analysis” toggle.

Your documents are never used to train AI.

Two kinds of no

Two different kinds of “no”

“AI reading is turned off for this” means a permission — an admin can flip it in Settings. “Your plan doesn’t include this” means a tier — spec-aware questions are Field and up; drawing and region questions are Studio and up. LODE never confuses the two.

The allowance

The allowance

Every question costs one AI message from your plan’s monthly allowance (General questions included). There’s no counter until you’ve used 85% — a generous allowance shouldn’t read as a countdown — then the remaining count appears. At zero, DOC pauses until the 1st of the month. Usage lives in Settings › Usage.
